Music Video : Idea One (Main Idea)

My first idea is a song called 'Lisztomania' by a French rock band called Phoenix. This song was originally released in 2009 but is still very popular as an indie pop song up until this day. Lisztomania meaning the intense fan frenzy directed toward composer Franz Liszt and how there would be women screaming at his shows which was very impressive considering that he was a classical composer.





I like how the band are using this as an example of the ultimate fame and they discuss the issues through their lyrics on how fame can grow so fast but also fade quickly the chorus discusses how you have to learn to deal with both. I really enjoy the whole reason behind the song and also the music itself as it tackles the issues of popularity in the music industry and how one minute you go from fame and then in some cases lose it in seconds.

Music Video

Overall the music video is just a montage of what appear to be old clips of artists that have died literally or in terms of fame. Shots of Franz Liszts grave appear and other bands and artists that have collapsed. Then it cuts to Phoenix singing in comparison to the other artists. Overall this music video supports the ideas behind the song and it works really well but I have a more indie idea behind mine.

I would love to incorporate this style of music video into my idea. This would involve a well suited character walking through busy area like a town centre or shopping centre wearing a bird mask. This at first seems silly but has a meaning behind it. Pigeons and crows are extremely common and people take a blind eye to them if they are seen in public purely because there is just so many of them. My reason behind this is because there are so many artists who are just like this either because they havent reached fame yet or they have lost it and when walking through crowds of people get ignored as they dont have that star fame yet or so called 'Lisztomania'. Phoenix as a band are clearly synthetic therefore the masks as a prop and costume would match them as a band overall.

It would then cut between this story that is happening and some studio filming of a band of people in a grassy area like a park or outside in a garden with full equipment. The main singer would be wearing the same clothes as the crow does in the story and the band members would match the other birds that the audience will come across in the video. Then towards the end the crowd will start to recognise them and chase down the street after them with smoke grenades and flares. Colour dye would be thrown at them and it would all get extremely hectic and a great finale.

As the bird continues its walk down the street it will come across other common people that dont have this fame and they can interact with eachother in terms of movement but no speech. This represents that they dont have a voice in comparison to major artists. Then towards the end of the video as it cuts to the band in the garden the cast will be revealed as the birds in the story as they will have there masks on of other animals. This reveal states that they eventually got there fame and are now recognised. It would then cut back to them in public however being noticed from now on
