What is editing

What is editing?

Editing

Editing is the process of selecting different camera shots and putting them into an order to create a structure that is enjoyable to watch and follows what the project is based around. Editing is important the audience relies on editing for there understanding and thoughts on the different characters. Who has the most screen time and what camera angles are used on certain characters are good examples of different editing techniques. All of these products are used in post production to change the viewers perception whilst watching the project.

Editing Process

The process of editing really does highlight the different parts of the projects narrative and really does have a huge impact on the audience depending on how its done. The difficulty of editing completely varies on what the project is you are working on. Films for example can be very challenging as they are such huge pieces of work and its hard to maintain this constant structure that will have a big impact on the audience. Most film work is done after filming but some films have been edited whilst the film is being made this is sometimes because they are in a rush of releasing there film. "Monsters" is an example of this they filmed guerrilla style and edited as they traveled. In live television they edit on the spot and it is live seconds later this in my opinion is obviously the most challenging style of editing.
