What is a thriller

A thriller is a genre of film and television. The thriller genre is known to give the viewer a heightened effect of Surprise, Anxiety, Shock, Suspense, Excitement and tenseness whilst watching them. Thrillers are so exciting to watch mainly because they are full of plot twists, Cliff hangers and red herrings to really play with the audiences heads and to build up tension and keep the audience on
"the edge of there seats" There are a huge variety of thrillers you can view and every single thriller has something in common that make them a thriller and make them so exciting and "Thrilling" to watch. Suspense, this is what makes the viewers chew there nails and get tense while watching.

Suspense is a huge part of creating a successful thriller film. It fills the audience with a sense of tension and excitement which makes the film much more enjoyable to watch. These emotions are usually built up from occurrences that happen in the movie. From a chase scene too a change of events. Any of these things could completely alter the emotions and feelings the audience are experiencing whilst sitting and watching the thriller.

A huge part to making a thriller what it says on the tin is effective use of music. Hearing is one of our five senses so why take it away from the audience when you can use it to your advantage and create a  much more enjoyable scene and really get to the veiwers feelings. Many different types of music are used in thrillers to acheive this effect, from high pitched violin music like the shower scene in pshyco to insidious where they use childrens music. Which is very ironic as childrens music is meant to be the opposite of being creepy however they have made it incredibly scary and it fits with the film.

There are many types of thrillers, from spy thrillers, conspiracy thrillers, forensic thrillers, horror thrillers, military thrillers and lots more. Each thriller has a different type of story but they still have that once thing in common that keeps it in the Genre of thriller and they all hold the same theme.

Spy thrillers usually involve an agent who works for the government who has a job to complete which will usually involve violent action and lots of high risk activities in order to complete the task.
The James Bond films are a great example of spy thrillers. They keep the viewers on the edge of there seat and build up suspense through events that happen in the story and its based on a spy that                                                                  makes its a spy thriller

Erotic Thrillers on the other hand are thrillers that give the audience a sense of eroticism and usually convey a sexual relationship but problems usually get in the way and doing so build up suspense making it again a thriller obviously the sexual relationship would play an important role in the story.

Steven Spielberg is a famous thriller director who is known for his film war of the worlds which is a very good sci-fi thriller which from my own experience I can agree scared me so much as a. Child which goes to show how good it is.
