Se7en Introduction analysis
Camera
Throughout the whole introduction all of the shots used are close ups and there are no other types of shots this allows the audience to focus on what is happening and try and spot clues to give hints of whats going to happen in the film because they are close up shots this stops the audience from seeing the location or the person behind it all which adds a sense of tension and mystery. Most of the shots lack movement as i assume they have to focus on the object so that the audience can see what is happening.
Editing
This introduction is packed full of editing and special effects some of the special effects that really stood out of me are the shots which are done in slow-motion this adds a sense of tension and helps the audience really capture what the person may be doing as it is easier for the audience to get a sense of what is going on. They have also added a flickering effect over most of the videos which are used as transitions this builds up a spooky vibe towards whats going on and gives the effect of stuff going on in someones head. This also links up to the titles they use which are in an almost handwritten font which gives the effect that someone is seeing writing and being told what to do and may link up to some sought of text being written this also adds to the creepy atmosphere that has already been created. The majority of the transitions used in this introduction are fade to black and crossfade also the flickering transition. This adds a dark tension towards the film and almost signifies memories fading away. The way the shots are cut almost forms some kind of montage but its almost been muddled up which gives the effect that the person may be muddled up and doing many things at the same time with all the photos in a way its like they are making a document about someone. There is also a brilliant example of changing the opacity of clips and over laying them so it reveals multiple images almost creating a ghostly effect which resembles a sense of tension and brings fear to the audience.
Sound
Throughout this feature the sound used is excellent at adding to the tension the soundtrack playing almost resembles machinery repeating its self this may link up to the person doing the work and how repetitive it is. Throughout the extract you can also hear the sound of a typewriter this links up to the office props being used and resembles a workplace the sounds start becoming louder towards the end on the clip which makes the audience nervous from whats about to come. The also begin adding a ghostly like sound in the background which links up to the theme of death and danger which makes me think that there may be murder involved in this. This soundtrack very much reminds me of one used to advertise a rollercoaster called "The smiler".
Mise en scene
Throughout the whole clip there aren't any long shots being used so the audience can get an understanding of where it is taking place but from the clues you get e.g. Books, Pictures of people, Pens, Razor blades, it almost gives the effect that the person is working at a desk somewhere maybe in an office building or a dark room producing photographic films and cutting the film. This is a very good technique not showing the audience as they have to piece together themselves what goings on which gives the sense of the unknown. The red light in most of the scenes almost like a light you would find in a dark room to develop photos or film gives a sense of blood and danger to the audience. The rest of the shots are in a dark room which gives an abandoned feeling and again links up with the unknown and what lies beyond the darkness.
