Analysis of Dead Man's Shoes

Dead Mans Shoes analysis

Editing

This video has been edited very well over the baby images they have added a grainy effect to make it look older. Another detail that i picked up is the fact that the transitions match with the filter used on the photos they are quite sharp and change quickly this gives me as the audience the effect of how fast you grow up and it goes by really quick

At 1:00 there us a brilliantly used effect of over lapping and changing the opacity to reveal the image below this almost gives the effect of memory's fading away and it goes from the two grown men to them as a child this is very powerful.

Camerawork

In this peice i love how must of the shots of the two men are stationary and seem very voyeuristic almost like someone is watching them they also always seem to be walking away from the camera. I also love the old family tapes that were used to represent the two as children. What really makes this a brilliant bit of video is that all the shots of the men are in a scenic area which seems isolated almost like there memorys are isolated.

Sound

There isn't any digetic sound during this video there is only a track in the backround which really fits the scene. At 2.37 the song sings about smiling as just as he sings it they editor has put in a picture of a man smiling this is a very good example of sound and video linking up which all in all makes it better and more enjoyable feature to watch as your ears and eyes can join things up and you enjoy doing so.

Mise en scene

The location seems to be in the country some where surrounded by fields and farms this gives a good effect of isolation and kind of gives it a post-apocalyptic vibe to it. The props the characters are wearing are old tracksuits and they seem to be carrying a bag. This gives the effect that they are on the run "as is said in the song" (Linking up video with sound) or homeless and trying to get somewhere. In the flashback the colours have a sepia effect on them which gives us as an audience the effect that its old and its in the past and that its almost like there memory's from when they where younger.
