Research Into The British Music Industry

After visiting the bpi's website I found great information on the music industry in 2015 the facts are featured below.

  • 2.1 million LPs purchased as vinyl sales climb 64 per cent to 21-year high, while decline in CD slows to 3.9 per cent as format still accounts for two thirds (66 per cent) of all album sales (excluding streams).  

  • Adele’s 25 sells 2.5 million copies in UK (and 15 million worldwide) in just six weeks to become 2015’s fastest & biggest seller globally – 11th year in a row best-selling artist album in UK has come from British act.

  • Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith cement global status as both X and In the Lonely Hour achieve lifetime sales of over 2 million copies in both the UK and US.  Ed Sheeran is the most streamed artist in the UK in 2015.

  • Audio streaming up 82 per cent – digital formats now account for 54 per cent of all UK music consumption.
